Chris Davies, the manager of Birmingham City, anticipates more player movements as the transfer window deadline approaches. With a total of 13 new signings already secured this summer, the Blues are not done yet. Among the potential additions is QPR forward Lyndon Dykes, who was recently seen at St Andrew’s during Blues’ Carabao Cup match against Fulham and is expected to be the club’s 14th signing.
The recruitment drive by Birmingham City has been extensive, covering various positions on the field. The club has brought in two goalkeepers, two center halves, two full-backs, two midfielders, two number tens, two wingers, and a center forward. Despite these acquisitions, Davies hinted at further incoming transfers before the window closes. He stated, “We still need to do some business, absolutely, we’re not there yet. We still need a little bit more – that’s always been the plan, it’s not changed in any way. That’s just ongoing. Hopefully we can get that done.”
While new signings are on the horizon, there may also be departures from the squad. Manny Longelo recently left the club, following other players like Jordan James, Alex Pritchard, and several who were released at the end of the previous season. However, Davies clarified that player exits would not necessarily dictate new arrivals. He mentioned, “Not necessarily. There’ll be a little bit coming in, a little bit going out. It’s the last few days of the window and it becomes a dynamic situation. All sorts is going on. From our point of view, it is not absolutely necessary that we get players out before they can come in.”
Two players expected to depart Birmingham City before the deadline are Siriki Dembele and Juninho Bacuna. When asked about their potential exits, Davies expressed his belief that they would likely follow through. Regarding Dykes, the QPR forward linked with a move to Blues, Davies remained cautious and respectful of the player’s current club, stating, “He’s somebody who obviously belongs to another club, but until something is official I can’t really make a comment on it.”
As the transfer window countdown continues, the Blues are in a state of flux, with both incoming and outgoing transfers still in the works. Davies and his team are navigating the intricate web of player movements with a strategic approach, aiming to strengthen the squad effectively for the upcoming challenges of the season. Stay tuned for further updates on Birmingham City’s transfer dealings as the deadline draws near.
