So, apparently, Aston Villa’s star player Morgan Rogers is catching the eye of Chelsea, one of their Premier League rivals, as we head towards the summer transfer window. According to reports, Chelsea is keen on making a move for Rogers, who made the switch to Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024. The lad really shone in the Championship and even left a mark when he faced the Lions in the FA Cup third round last season.
The 22-year-old actually started out in the West Bromwich Albion academy before heading off to Manchester City in 2019. After some loan spells with Lincoln City, Bournemouth, and Blackpool, he landed at Boro in 2023. Since joining Villa, he’s been a key player in Unai Emery’s starting lineup. This season has been quite the breakthrough for Rogers; he’s been playing in the Champions League, earned a spot in the England national team, and has been delivering in the final third with 27 goals and assists in 50 appearances for Villa.
Reports suggest that Chelsea, known for splashing the cash, are looking to strike a deal for Rogers once the current season wraps up. The two clubs have already been doing business recently, exchanging players like Omari Kellyman, Ian Maatsen, and Axel Disasi. Chelsea could come knocking again after this season ends, putting Villa in a bit of a pickle. See, they, along with other clubs outside the ‘Big Six’, are always on edge about Financial Fair Play rules and the punishments that come with breaking them. Villa would love to keep hold of Rogers, but if Chelsea comes in with an offer that helps them avoid any FFP troubles, they might have to consider it.
The burning question now is, what will Villa’s priority be in the summer transfer window? Tough call, isn’t it? With so much uncertainty in the air, it’s hard to say for sure. But hey, that’s football for you!
