Police in the Midlands are warning residents to be vigilant after a group of carol singing children were used as a distraction by burglars targeting homes in two towns. The suspects, two girls between the ages of eight and ten, accompanied by a woman, posed as festive singers while stealing from unsuspecting householders.
The first incident occurred in Crane Close in Stratford on Thursday, December 19, at approximately 4:20 pm. A woman and two children entered a property under the guise of carol singers, only to steal AirPods and a charger from the resident. The following day, on Friday, December 20, the group struck again in St Michael’s Road in Warwick around 6 pm. This time, the children requested food, leading the resident to invite them inside while she fetched snacks. Upon their departure, the victim discovered cash missing from her purse.
Suspects Description and Police Response
The suspects are described as a woman with a mixed ethnic background, standing at around 5ft 2in, accompanied by two young girls believed to be around eight to ten years old. Detective Sergeant Thomas Quinlan from Warwickshire Police emphasized the modus operandi of distraction burglars who often target vulnerable individuals, gaining entry to homes under false pretenses. Despite the holiday season, these criminals are exploiting the kindness of residents for their illicit gains.
Police Advice and Appeal for Information
Quinlan advised residents to be cautious of cold-callers and report any suspicious activity promptly. Witnesses or individuals with doorbell footage of the incidents are urged to come forward either through the police website or by calling 101. In the event of a crime in progress, the public should dial 999.
