Hey there, folks! So, apparently, people in the West Midlands have been cleaning out their closets…of weapons? Yeah, you heard that right. In the first three months of the year, a whopping 1,705 weapons were handed in at various surrender bins across the region. That’s like, 142 weapons a week or over 20 a day. I mean, who knew there were so many dangerous items just lying around?

The most popular spot for surrendering these lethal goodies seems to be the New Testament Church of God in Erdington, where a staggering 415 weapons were dropped off. I guess the church is really doing the lord’s work in cleaning up the streets. Morrisons on the Black Country Route came in second with 104 weapons surrendered, followed closely by Coventry Police Station with 95. It’s like a game of hot potato, but with knives and machetes instead.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, seems pretty pleased with the turnout. He’s even planning to double the number of surrender bins from 32 to 64 to tackle knife crime head-on. According to him, each weapon handed in is a potential life saved, so I guess it’s a win-win situation. Plus, around 8,000 deadly weapons have already been destroyed thanks to this scheme. Keep up the good work, folks!
